The Dubai Fountain is impressive from the promenade, but on the water it becomes something else entirely. This short abra ride takes you out onto Burj Lake in a traditional wooden boat, putting you close to the jets as they rise and sway to music, with Burj Khalifa towering directly above.
What to expect
Rides currently run in the evening, when the fountain performs its shows and the surrounding towers, The Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar are lit up. Your boat glides across the lake in a small group, timed so that you can watch a fountain show from the water. The ride lasts around half an hour from boarding to return, giving plenty of time for photographs of the tower and the lake reflections.
Practical details
Tickets are issued for a specific date and time slot, and guests usually collect them at the At the Top counter on the Lower Ground level of The Dubai Mall before heading to the boarding point. Arriving at least 30 minutes early is recommended. Children under three currently ride free, and younger children must be accompanied by an adult; life jackets are provided for small children.
It pairs well with a visit to At the Top or dinner in Downtown Dubai, and is one of the most relaxed ways to enjoy the fountain without the crowds on the promenade.
