Some of the best stories in Dubai are told over food. This walking tour takes you into the oldest part of the city, where trading families, sea captains and merchants from across the Gulf, Iran and India shaped both the skyline and the kitchen. Over roughly three and a half hours you sample a series of local and regional dishes while your guide explains how each one connects to the people who brought it here.
The walk usually starts in the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, a quiet district of restored coral-stone and gypsum houses topped with traditional wind towers. From there you cross Dubai Creek the way residents have done for generations, on a wooden abra water taxi, to reach Deira on the opposite bank.
In Deira the pace picks up. Wander past sacks of saffron, dried limes and frankincense in the spice market, glance into the glittering windows of the gold souk and stop for snacks that locals actually queue for. Expect a mix of Emirati specialities, Arabic coffee with dates and popular street food, with time for questions about customs, etiquette and everyday life in the city.
It is a relaxed, small-group style outing suited to first-time visitors and curious residents alike. Please tell us about allergies or dietary needs when you request your booking so we can plan the tastings around you.
