Before the towers and highways, Dubai was a trading settlement on the banks of its Creek. This focused heritage tour stays in that original heart of the city, on foot and on the water, for a relaxed few hours of history, aromas and conversation.
You begin in the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood in Bur Dubai, a restored quarter of sand-coloured houses, shaded alleys and traditional wind towers that once cooled homes before air conditioning. Today the lanes hold small museums, galleries and cafés. Close by on the Creek is the Al Shindagha heritage area, where Al Shindagha Museum tells the story of the Creek and the families who lived and traded along it.
From the waterfront you board an abra, the traditional wooden water taxi that still shuttles residents across Dubai Creek every few minutes from early morning. On the Deira side, your guide leads you through the spice souk, heaped with saffron, cardamom, frankincense and dried limes, and on to the gold souk with its glittering shopfronts. You will pick up tips on what to look for and how bargaining works.
The tour is ideal as a morning or late-afternoon outing, when temperatures are gentler. We confirm meeting point or pickup, timings and inclusions on WhatsApp before any payment.
