Louvre Abu Dhabi is one of the region’s great cultural landmarks, a museum that tells the story of human creativity across civilisations rather than by country or school. Its galleries sit beneath a vast latticed dome that scatters sunlight into a moving pattern often called a rain of light, and the whole complex is surrounded by the sea on Saadiyat Island.
Inside, a chronological route takes you from the earliest objects of human history through the great ancient empires, world religions and trade routes, to the modern and contemporary era. Works from different cultures are displayed side by side, so you can trace shared ideas across continents. Temporary exhibitions add fresh themes during the year, and there is a dedicated children’s programme.
An admission ticket also opens the outdoor plazas beneath the dome, which stay open into the evening long after the galleries close, along with the museum café, restaurant and boutique. Many visitors time their visit to see the dome at sunset.
Adults currently pay a modest entry fee while visitors under 18 enter free, which makes it an easy family choice. The museum is closed on Mondays and some galleries may close temporarily during installations.
