Al Noor Island is one of Sharjah’s most peaceful escapes: a landscaped island on Khalid Lagoon, reached by footbridge and developed by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq). It combines nature, contemporary art and design, making it equally appealing to families, couples and photographers.
The star attraction is the Butterfly House, a striking climate-controlled pavilion with a perforated golden roof, home to hundreds of butterflies from around the world. Inside you can watch them feed and fly freely, and learn about the life cycle from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. Depending on your ticket, an educator can guide you through the Butterfly House.
Beyond the pavilion, winding paths lead through shaded woodland and wild-grass meadows dotted with sculptures and art installations, a literature pavilion, and a wooded rope playground for children. As evening falls, light installations bring the paths to life, and the island offers lovely views back across the lagoon to the Sharjah skyline. Noor Café serves breakfast, lunch and tea for a relaxed break.
The island also hosts programmes such as sunrise yoga, gardening workshops and stargazing sessions with an astronomy expert, offered separately and subject to schedule. It is an easy addition to a Sharjah city day.
